When hunger returns soon after lunch, the first instinct is often to push through it. A more useful question is whether lunch gave you enough structure in the first place.

Give one meal three places
You do not need exact measurements. Try including a protein food, vegetables or fruit, and a carbohydrate at lunch. Beans, eggs, fish, tofu, or yogurt can work; rice, whole-grain bread, corn, and potatoes can fit too. The aim is not a perfect plate. It is to avoid relying on only one kind of food to carry you through the afternoon.
Try packing it this way tomorrow
- Start with one protein food you actually enjoy.
- Add two colors of vegetables or fruit for variety.
- Reserve a space for a carbohydrate instead of making it disappear.
Appetite, activity, sleep, and stress differ from person to person. If hunger, weight changes, or eating concerns keep affecting daily life, a clinician or registered dietitian can offer more tailored support.
Which space would you most like to add to tomorrow’s lunch?
